I only had an initial examination and consultation. The appointment was short, the doctor was often distracted, and strangers — workers — came into the office and inspected the air conditioner at the same time.

The consultation was short, the doctor was very distracted, and outsiders—workmen—kept coming into the room and inspecting the air conditioner. I hope the second appointment will go better; we turned a blind eye to all this, as we came on a recommendation.

    Patient story

I came for an appointment with doctor Shegay, I booked for lunchtime. The doctor did not listen to me or examine me, spent only 2 minutes on me and sent me to come back next time with a pile of tests.

    Disliked

Words are not enough to describe this appointment. The doctor was only interested in whether I had paid for the appointment, and there was no time to listen to what hurt me, let alone look at it. She suddenly wanted to eat, and I turned out to be the one to blame for booking with a "doctor" at lunchtime. I did not receive a consultation: they spent 2 minutes on me, without listening or examining me, and sent me to come back next time with a pile of tests. I paid 13000 not for 2 minutes of rudeness and indifference towards me. But every cloud has a silver lining — I found a wonderful neuropathologist at another clinic!

Electroencephalography in Almaty

Electroencephalography in Almaty is a method of recording the bioelectrical activity of the brain using electrodes attached to the skin of the head. The test is used for epilepsy and suspected epilepsy, for fainting, seizures, sleep disorders, after injuries and for complaints of headaches of unclear origin. It helps the doctor assess how the brain works at rest and during functional tests, and also clarify whether further examinations are needed.

Main

  • The essence of the method: recording the bioelectrical activity of the brain via electrodes on the scalp, without punctures or anaesthesia.
  • Main reasons: epilepsy and suspected epilepsy, fainting, seizures, sleep disorders, head injuries.
  • What it will not show: a tumour, a cyst and the consequences of a stroke are detected by tomography, not by an activity curve.
  • Preparation: get enough sleep, wash your hair without styling products, do not stop anything prescribed on your own.
  • Duration: the recording itself takes from forty minutes to an hour; the doctor interprets it separately.

What is electroencephalography

Electroencephalography is a method of studying the bioelectrical activity of the brain, in which weak signals from nerve cells are recorded through electrodes on the skin of the head. The recording helps the doctor assess how the brain works at rest and under various loads, without interfering with the body.

What the service gives the doctor and the patient

Electroencephalography gives the doctor an objective picture of how consistently different parts of the brain work together. The patient feels no pain, and the recording itself takes a predictable amount of time and requires no punctures or anaesthesia. By the nature of the rhythms, the specialist sees signs of increased excitability, slowing, or focal changes in activity. This helps to understand whether complaints of seizures, fainting, or memory lapses are related to the work of the brain. The recording is also useful for monitoring how the condition changes over time, without repeated complex interventions. The doctor compares the result with the patient's account and the findings of the examination, rather than reading the trace in isolation from them. Therefore, the discussion of what electroencephalography is should be conducted precisely as about one of the tools of the overall picture. It is important for the patient to ask in advance which questions the recording should clarify, so that the visit is useful.

When the service is prescribed

  • Seizures and convulsions: episodes of loss of consciousness or twitching require checking whether they are related to the rhythms of the brain, and not to the heart or blood vessels.
  • Fainting of unclear origin: if the cause of falls remains unclear after examination, the recording helps to separate vascular mechanisms from changes in brain activity.
  • Developmental delay in a child: when speech, movements, or behaviour lag behind what is expected, the doctor looks for signs of altered activity that interfere with learning and communication.
  • Sleep disorders: with snoring, breathing pauses, or daytime sleepiness, the recording shows how the brain passes through the phases of rest and whether there are deviations.
  • Consequences of injuries and operations: after a blow to the head or an intervention, it is important to make sure that brain activity has recovered without hidden changes.
  • Monitoring the condition over time: a repeat recording shows whether the picture is changing and helps the doctor decide whether further steps are needed.

What this service will not show

Electroencephalography does not show the structure of the brain: it does not detect a tumour, a cyst, the consequences of a stroke, or displacement of tissues. For this, images are needed — computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, which provide a picture rather than a curve of activity. The recording does not replace a conversation with the doctor and an examination, because complaints and medical history remain the basis of any conclusions. It also does not answer the question of the causes of a headache if it is related to blood vessels, the spine, or muscle tension. A normal recording does not completely rule out a problem: changes are sometimes noticeable only during a seizure or after lack of sleep. And conversely, individual unusual waves in a healthy person do not mean illness and do not require treatment in themselves. Therefore, the result is always read by the doctor together with other examinations, and not as the only source of an answer. If the recording has not explained the complaints, it is worth discussing with the doctor which other methods will help clarify the picture.

How does the procedure go?

Electroencephalography in Almaty is carried out in a functional diagnostics room and takes from forty minutes to an hour. Understanding how the procedure goes helps you calmly go through all the stages and obtain a correct report.

The procedure step by step

Electroencephalography begins with the patient being seated in a comfortable chair or laid on a couch in a semi-reclining position. The specialist measures the circumference of the head and puts on it an elastic cap with electrodes, or attaches sensors to the skin using a soft gel. Each electrode is fixed at its own point, so the procedure requires stillness and patience from the patient. The machine then records the electrical activity of the brain in a state of calm wakefulness with the eyes closed. This is followed by functional tests: deep breathing for several minutes and opening the eyes on the doctor's command. The doctor watches the trace on the screen and notes the moments when the rhythm changes. After the recording is complete, the electrodes are removed and the remaining gel is wiped off with a tissue, and the patient can return to usual activities.

What the patient feels

Electroencephalography does not cause pain, since the electrodes only touch the skin of the head and do not pass current through the body. While the cap is being put on, there is a slight pressure on the scalp and a coolness from the gel. The recording itself takes place in silence, and the only inconvenience is the need to sit still with the eyes closed. During deep breathing, some people notice slight dizziness or tingling in the fingers, which passes within a minute. Opening the eyes on command does not cause discomfort, but requires attention to the doctor's words. After the electrodes are removed, a little gel remains on the skin, which is easily washed off with warm water at home. If an unpleasant sensation appears during the procedure, it is worth telling the specialist about it straight away so that he can pause.

Preparation for the procedure

Preparation for an electroencephalography in Almaty begins a day before the visit and concerns mainly sleep, diet and hair hygiene. Documents collected in advance and honest answers to the doctor's questions help carry out the recording calmly and without rescheduling.

What to do the day before

Electroencephalography is sensitive to the state of sleep, so the day before it is important to get a good night's sleep in your usual routine and not go to bed later than usual. Before the visit, hair is washed with ordinary shampoo without conditioners, oils, hairsprays, mousses or dry styling masks. A heavy supper and strong tea or coffee in the evening can interfere with falling asleep, while lack of sleep distorts the picture of the rhythms. Hunger is also undesirable: a light breakfast in the morning helps you get through the recording more calmly, unless the doctor has said otherwise. Jewellery, earrings, hair clips and hairpins are removed in advance so that they do not interfere with the placement of sensors on the head. If a person regularly takes medicines prescribed by a doctor, they must not be stopped on one's own — this is reported to the specialist before the recording begins. Such preparation reduces the risk that the recording will have to be repeated on another day.

What to bring with you

  • Referral: a form from the attending doctor stating the purpose of the test is needed so that the specialist understands which parts of the recording to look at more carefully.
  • Identity document: an ID card or passport is processed before the start; without it the recording may not be started.
  • Previous reports: old electroencephalography protocols and hospital discharge summaries give the doctor a point of comparison and help see changes over time.
  • List of medicines taken: a list of names and times of intake, drawn up in advance, saves confusion at the appointment and unnecessary clarifications.
  • Results of examinations: images and reports on other head examinations are useful if they are at hand in paper or electronic form.
  • Change of shoes or shoe covers: in the office this is a usual requirement, and for a child it is worth taking along a favourite toy and water.

What not to do

  • Come with unwashed hair: residues of styling products and skin oil worsen the contact of the sensors, which makes the recording unclear.
  • Drink strong coffee and energy drinks: they change the rhythm and can produce a picture that the doctor mistakenly takes for an abnormality.
  • Stop your usual medicines on your own: this decision is made only by the attending doctor, otherwise the recording loses its meaning.
  • Arrive in severe stress or after a sleepless night: anxiety and fatigue show up on the recording as noticeably as lack of sleep.
  • Hide information about your well-being: past injuries, fainting and seizures are important to tell the doctor before the start, not after.
  • Be late and arrive at the last moment: a calm start without haste helps a person relax and does not disrupt the setup.

Who gets it and how often?

Electroencephalography in Almaty is most often prescribed by neurologists when epilepsy is suspected, after fainting and for persistent headaches. The procedure is repeated in different ways: for some a single recording is enough, for others it is done regularly.

Who is most often referred

Electroencephalography is most often required for patients with episodes of loss of consciousness, seizures or suspected epilepsy. A neurologist also refers for it when there are complaints of fainting, when it is necessary to distinguish true loss of consciousness from other conditions. In children, a recording is often done for delayed speech development, night startles and episodes of "freezing". In adults, it is prescribed after a traumatic brain injury, stroke or neurosurgical operation in order to assess brain function. In patients with persistent headaches and dizziness, the examination helps to rule out hidden epileptic activity. In sleep disorders and anxiety disorders, the doctor may use the recording as an additional guide. Such indications do not mean that a diagnosis already exists: only a specialist evaluates the result. If the episodes recur, it is reasonable to discuss with a neurologist the need for a recording without postponing the visit for long.

Repeated night startles in a childYesHelps to clarify the nature of the episodes
Acute infection with feverPostponedThe condition distorts the recording

Routine follow-up after surgeryYesCompared with previous data

How often it is repeated

The frequency of repeat electroencephalography is determined by the attending neurologist, not by the clinic's schedule or the patient's wish. For a first-time episode, one recording is usually enough, and it is repeated only with new symptoms. If a person receives anti-epileptic therapy, follow-up recordings are done at an interval that the doctor selects individually. In children with developmental delay, the recording is often repeated as they grow in order to see the dynamics of the maturation of brain rhythms. After a traumatic brain injury or surgery, the timing of the next examination depends on the speed of recovery and complaints. In frequent fainting of unclear origin, the recording may be repeated soon after the first, sometimes with additional tests. Too frequent repetition without a medical reason does not provide new information and only tires the person. Therefore, before the next recording it is worth clarifying with the doctor exactly what task it solves.

Electroencephalography in Almaty: clinics and doctors

This section brings together where in Almaty you can have an electroencephalography and how clinic profiles on the portal are structured. Below is how many offers for this service are available, by which features to compare clinics and what information is given in their profiles.

How many clinics offer the service

Electroencephalography in Almaty is represented on the portal by offers from clinics, and two doctors provide appointments for this service. Both specialists are listed in separate profiles, which bring together information about the clinic where they see patients and about the service itself. This number means that the choice is limited, so options have to be compared more carefully than usual. The profiles show in which district of the city the clinic is located and how to get there. Next to the doctor it is indicated whether they see adults, children or work with both groups of patients. This noticeably cuts down the time spent on phone calls: some questions are resolved while viewing the list. If the right specialist is not in the selection, it is worth broadening the search conditions and looking at neighbouring districts of the city.

What to look at when choosing a clinic

  • District and address: proximity to home or work matters for repeat visits, when the journey takes up time and energy.
  • Patient age: not every clinic sees children and adults, so this feature is checked in the profile before calling.
  • Who performs the test: find out whether a doctor sees the patient or the procedure is carried out by nursing staff as prescribed.
  • Appointment procedure: some clinics see patients by prior appointment, others on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Conditions of the appointment: find out in advance whether preparation is needed before the test and what to bring to the visit.
  • Completeness of the profile: the more information is given about the clinic and the doctor, the fewer questions will have to be clarified by phone.

What is shown in the clinic profile

The clinic profile on the portal contains information by which you can assess in advance whether this place suits you. It lists the name of the clinic, its address and district of the city, as well as contact details for booking an appointment. A separate block gives information about the doctor: their specialisation, category and which groups of patients they work with. Next to it are listed the services the clinic provides, and among them electroencephalography. This structure allows two offers to be compared by specific features rather than by general impressions. If a profile lacks a needed detail, it is clarified by phone before the visit so as not to waste time on the journey. It is worth booking with the doctor whose profile and conditions of appointment match your situation.

How to book an appointment?

This section explains how to choose a convenient time for an electroencephalography and submit a request through the portal. After submitting the form, all that is left is to wait for confirmation and come to the appointed room.

How to submit a request

A request for an electroencephalography is made directly on the service page, where you first choose a suitable day and time from the available slots. The booking form is short: it is enough to provide your name and phone number; registration on the portal is not required. Free intervals are updated as other patients take them, so it is better to book a convenient time right away. If the desired slot is not in the list, it is worth looking at neighbouring days or choosing another time of day. Before submitting, check your phone number: a message with confirmation and visit details will be sent to it. Such an appointment booking in Almaty takes a couple of minutes and does not require calls to the clinic. Save the confirmation message — it contains the address, date and time, and it is by this that you will be found at the reception desk.

What you will need for booking

  • Name: provide it as it is written in your documents, so that the administrator can quickly find your request in the list.
  • Phone: a number that is always at hand and available for a call or message on the day of the visit.
  • Convenient time: decide in advance which days and hours suit you, so that you can choose a slot without haste.
  • Referral: if the doctor has already written out a referral for the examination, keep it at hand when filling in the form.
  • Calm environment: fill in the form where you are not distracted, so as not to make a mistake in the phone number.
  • Confirmation: save the message from the portal — you will use it to check the address and time before leaving.

What is worth remembering

A discussion of electroencephalography in Almaty should end with what remains with the reader after studying the topic. Below are several conclusions that help make a balanced decision without haste and unnecessary doubts.

Main conclusions

Electroencephalography in Almaty remains a test prescribed by the attending physician for a specific reason, and not at the patient's own wish. The method records the electrical activity of the brain at rest and during functional tests, so its result is assessed only in conjunction with complaints and examination. The procedure itself is painless and does not require intervention in the body, which removes most of the anxieties of those undergoing it for the first time. Preparation comes down to simple everyday rules: a clean head, comfortable clothing, a calm state and informing the specialist about the medications being taken. The interpretation is done by the doctor, and it is he who explains what the observed patterns mean and whether a repeat test is needed. One should not postpone the visit if episodes of loss of consciousness, seizures or persistent headaches recur without a clear cause. It is more reasonable to rely on the doctor's referral and to clarify in advance at the clinic in Almaty the procedure and the conditions for booking.

The portal does not provide medical services and does not replace a consultation with a doctor. The information on condition pages is for reference only.
